In future, this chapter will contain information on a number of diseases transmitted by flying insects other than sand flies or mosquitoes, ranging from biting insects like tabanids, tsetse flies and stable flies to non-biting secretophagous fruit flies.
Some of these insects can be significant pests themselves, sometimes causing direct economic losses in livestock due to their biting behavior, and all of them are able to transmit important, sometimes even life-threatening pathogens.
